Abstract

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease with genetic predisposition, which in combination with environmental factors, triggers a cascade of immune responses and leads to disturbances of the blood-brain barrier. The result is an inflammatory demyelination of the white brain matter in the central nervous system (CNS), involving T- and B-lymphocytes, and macrophages.
The transmission disturbances in CNS signals lead to clinical neurologic deficit.
